Specialist Sectors – Rail

RailThe relationship between Jetway Associates Ltd and London Underground can be traced back way before 1992 when the company changed its trading name from Berwyn Engineering Ltd. We have worked for LUL and its subsidiaries for well in excess of thirty years.

During that period we have undertaken work for London Underground Ltd (LUL), BVT, Metro net, Network Rail and Tube Lines Ltd.

The works have been varied and have generally involved the supply of cast, machined or fabricated parts manufactured to existing design and specifications.

Late in 2010 we commenced a contract for Tube Lines for the supply of Pivot End Mounting Brackets valued at over £50k. This contract is a good example of Jetways’ flexibility as it included our full scope of supply.

Within the scope of the project Jetwaysourced the castings,
-Arranged for MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) prior to machining them
-Turned tapered Pivot Pins
-Produced welding procedures specific to the product
-Had our welders certified to undertake these works
-Welded the Pivot Pins into the castings which were then subjected to Dye Penetration and Radiographic Testing (X-Ray) prior to despatch.

We do get involved in re-engineering existing equipment / designs to maintain older rolling stock and provide our clients with additional resources; the recent manufacture of M Doors is an example of this. Working from a badly damaged sample provided by Tube Lines we reduced the overall dimensions so as to fit an earlier model of rolling stock, produced patterns and aluminium castings and machined these to accommodate the necessary workings within the door structure. The doors were then painted to meet the existing colour scheme and specification.
